The astronaut's suit, called an "EMU",
Extravehicular Mobility Unit, provides a self-contained Life Support System eliminating the requirement for a suit-to-spacecraft supply line or umbilical.
When the suited astronaut attaches the EMU to the
MMU, Manned Maneuvering Unit, the combination becomes a self-contained spacecraft used to capture a malfunctioning satellite.
The Attitude Control System in the MMU is used to stop the rotation of the satellite.
Once stabilized and positioned in or near the payload bay, the satellite may be inspected and either repaired and returned to orbit or moved to the payload bay and returned to Earth.
